Waterfalls

"Don't go chasing waterfalls,
please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to...
"

Little precious has a natural obsession for temptation, but he just can't see. However, I guess not only little precious is tempted at times. But should we chase or stick to the rivers that we're used to?

We love to chase, it's a natural desire to gain, to achieve, to have. At times it seems like we never have enough and never get tired of chasing. We chase for attention, appreciation, and (sadly) for love. So what happens when we have it? Of course we won't stop chasing, because there is always a little bit more to achieve. So will we ever stop chasing? Perhaps not. Should we stop chasing? Well, this depends hardly on our goals in life. We wouldn't be here, typing and reading blogs, or even having Internet or electricity when mankind would have stopped chasing at one point in time.

Unfortunately the desire to chase often goes hand in hand with dissatisfaction of the current situation. People seek perfection - in their career, in relationships, and beauty. It is more than healthy to know the limits of perfection and possibilities. Especially men in economics chase for more money, quicker money and higher positions and are unable to admit and accept failure. Both, men and women chase for a perfect relationship and in foremost urban cities and cultures, relationships can be "non-exclusive" because there might be someone better out there. Increasing numbers in beauty surgeries show that the trend in perfection of looks goes on and people want to be "perfect". Whatever that means.

What's wrong with sticking to the water that we know? Nothing really, but it bores us. This can't be it - at least that's what we tell ourselves. We play on the safe side, if we hold on, because this is what we know, what we're used to and we know what we can expect. But as much as we love chasing, most of us like to avoid risks as well.

TLCs meaning behind the lyrics of "Waterfalls" regard to waterfalls as something, strong, heavy, oppressive, but beautiful at the same time - displayed in their music video by drugs and unsafe sex. My discussed waterfalls are less strong compared to these topics, but still remain waterfalls, which might be able to drown you.

Your natural instinct should tell you when to chase, or when to stick. And because you often cannot rely on this instinct, learn from your and other peoples mistakes.

"Learn from other people's mistakes.
You won't have time to make them all yourself."
